Cleaning Uses of Vinegar Highlighted in Associated Press
Recently, Associated Press released an article on the continued effectiveness of "stain rescues rooted in the past," including vinegar.  The use of vinegar in numerous cleaning solutions is mentioned, including eradicating grass stains and ring-around-the collar in clothes and cleaning showerheads.  The entire article can be viewed using this link

Cleaning Products May Be Tied to Breathing Problems in Children
Reuters Health published an article about the results of a study that indicated children's exposure to cleaning products and other household chemicals before or after birth may be at increased risk for breathing problems.  The research, published in the European Respiratory Journal, found that young children whose mothers frequently used household chemicals during pregnancy were at greater risk of wheezing than their peers.  However, it is important to note that the findings do not prove that household chemicals directly caused the children's lung problems.  The article notes that lead researcher for the study, Dr. John Henderson of the University of Bristol, indicated that while "natural" cleaning products like vinegar or lemon juice might be safer "there is no research on whether they are better or worse for children's respiratory health."  To read the Reuters Health article, use this link

An article appeared recently on the Web site, www.chealth.canoe.ca.com regarding the potential health benefits of apple cider vinegar (ACV).  (Canoe.ca is a leading local and national interactive media provider of news, entertainment and services, helping to inform and connect Canadians.)  The article details some findings related to the use of apple cider vinegar to control cholesterol, to regulate blood glucose levels and to limit weight gain.  It is important to note that the article cautions, "Until there is conclusive evidence about the health benefits of ACV, it is better to stick with proven treatment methods for your medical conditions."  To read the entire article, use this link.

CBS3 News in Philadelphia ran a news story recently on how to clean winter boots and shoes. Apple Cider Vinegar Suggested as a Means to Perk up Sallow Skin
An article in the Pittsburgh-Tribune Review shared some strategies from Shape magazine for a glowing complexion, including the use of apple cider vinegar.  The article suggests the following:  "Perk up sallow skin:  Use a spray bottle to spritz on apple cider vinegar.  It stimulates circulation, refreshing and reviving a dull complexion instantly, says a makeup artist in Los Angeles who has worked with Jennifer Garner and Kate Beckinsale."  To read the entire article, use this link.

www.msnbc.msn.com featured a story from the Today Show, titled, "10 wacky beauty tips that actually work."  The tips were taken from Cosmopolitan magazine.  The following is noted with respect to vinegar, "Amp shine with vinegar
Mix one part vinegar with four parts carbonated water, and soak dry hair. Leave on for 15 minutes before you shampoo to lock in shine and combat dullness."

Rub-a-dub-dub to a Cleaner Tub
An article by Detroit News advises readers of how to obtain a clean bathroom.  Tips for organizing and cleaning floors, toilet bowls, tub and tile are offered.  Vinegar is recommended for cleaning the toilet bowl, tub and tile, plastic and metal showerheads and the shower curtain. How to Remove Red Lipstick Stains
A recent article on thedailygreen.com (The Consumers Guide to the Green Revolution) featured an article, in line with Valentine’s Day, about how to remove red lipstick stains.  The article recommends dabbing the lipstick smudge with a white tissue until no more lipstick lifts off the garment.  Next, readers are instructed to lay the garment onto a hard, non-porous surface and covering the lipstick smear with a small mountain of baking soda and rubbing it in with a toothbrush.  Lastly, one should cover what is left of the stain with more baking soda and a few drops of white distilled vinegar.  When it starts to bubble up, it is recommended that a few drops of clear dishwashing detergent be added and scrub.  To view the story, including video, use this link.
