Vinegar Mentioned in Real Simple Magazine - The April 2005 issue of Real Simple Magazine touts the versatility of vinegar in the article titled, "101 New Uses for Everyday Things" (page 199).  Dr. Michael Doyle, Director of the Center for Food Safety at the University of Georgia, Griffin and a well known expert in the area of food safety, notes,  "Vinegar is a strong preservative because its acetic acid kills the microbes and bacteria that could cause food to spoil."  Among the vinegar uses cited in the article include removing coffee and tea stains from cups, cleaning the teakettle or coffeemaker and killing weeds between cracks in paving stones and sidewalks.

Vinegar as a Weapon Against Cancer - The A.P. John Institute for Cancer Research issued a press release on acetic acid's detrimental effect on cancer cells by inhibiting glycolysis, the energy-producing process in cells.  The release notes, "...logic dictates that if you shut down Glycolysis with acetic acid, cancer cells will die from starvation." The release also states several times that vinegar is a natural source of acetic acid.  Additionally, the article mentions citric acid and notes, "Citric Acid is readily converted into acetic acid in the body and when combined, prove to be valuable weapons in fighting cancer."

Use Vinegar to Test Soil - The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - A home and garden tip appeared in t he Atlanta Journal-Constitution regarding the use of vinegar to test soil.  According to the article, if you add a few drops of vinegar to a tablespoon of dry garden soil and it fizzes, the soil's pH is greater than 7.5.

Vinegar Identified as One of Top 20 Home Remedies - New York Daily News  - An article appeared in the New York Daily News regarding the top 20 home remedies, which included the use of vinegar.  The article recommends using vinegar to combat fungus, tenderize meat and for relief against insect and jelly fish stings. The remedies were excerpted from "The People's Pharmacy Guide to Home and Herbal Remedies" (St. Martin's Press) compiled by Joe and Teresa Graedon, writers of The People's Pharmacy health advice column, syndicated by King Features.

Organic Vinegar-Based Weed Killer - Eco-Safety Products Press Release – The Arizona-based company, Eco-Safety Products, has announced the introduction of an organic vinegar-based weed killer.  According to the release, "To safely control weeds, the company is introducing an organic vinegar-based weed and grass killer that effectively kills a broad range of weeds and grass usually within an hour, not days."
